NORTH BRANFORD — A Branford woman was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Forest Road Tuesday afternoon, according to North Branford police.

Officers responded to 217 Forest Road for a one-vehicle crash at approximately 2:43 p.m., Deputy Chief James Lovelace said in a release.

The driver, later identified as Laura Carolla, had suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident, Lovelace said. She was treated at the scene, but was later pronounced dead after being brought to Yale New Haven Hospital.

Lovelace expressed the department’s “deep sadness” in announcing Carolla’s passing as part of the release.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash, Lovelace said. Officer Robert Stimpson is heading the inquiry.
