NEW HAVEN — Two people died of flu-associated causes between Dec. 29 and Jan. 4, according to the Department of Public Health, bringing the total number of people who have passed away from the disease this flu season to seven.

During this flu season, which began Aug. 25, officials said 472 people have been hospitalized from the disease. As of Dec. 28, that total stood at 278, officials said in a prior report.

The number of flu-positive tests reported to DPH also increased last week, rising from 1,050 to 1,613. Most of the positive tests came from New Haven, Fairfield and Hartford counties, according to DPH.

The percentage of emergency room visits statewide attributed to flu-like illness during the week was 11.21 percent, up from 10.27 percent the week prior, according to DPH.

No flu-related pediatric deaths have been reported this season, officials said.
