BRANFORD — Investigators ruled out homicide as the cause of death for a father and son found dead with signs of trauma Monday evening.
David Wells, 71, and Jason Wells, 36, his son, were found dead in Apt. 2C at 111 Florence Road, police said Tuesday.
Through investigation by Branford and state police detectives, as well as autopsies by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, homicide was ruled out as a cause of death for both men, police said.
The cause of death was not determined, as toxicology reports were still in progress, police said. The investigation continued as of Tuesday afternoon.
Dispatchers received a 911 call at around 6:18 p.m. Monday and found two bodies in an apartment at 111 Florence Road in the Branford Hills apartment complex, police said.
The people who died had “signs of trauma” but police said there is “no known immediate threat related to the incident.”
On Tuesday morning, there was no police presence at the complex.
Area residents who posted on the Branford police Facebook page expressed surprise that the deaths could occur in that neighborhood .
“Wow in my neighborhood,” one woman said. Others noted that the deaths happened right around the corner from their homes.
“Scary just down the street from me!,” said another resident.
“This is very unsettling, said you say ‘isolated incident, but what exactly does it mean ‘with signs of trauma?’ I would like more info so I can feel secure please,” said another resident before the names of the deceased individuals were released.
The apartment/condo complex, built in the 1960s, has about 30 buildings.
Units have one to three bedrooms.
