Griswold Inn cancels 350 Easter reservations after worker tests positive for COVID

The Griswold Inn on Main Street in Essex, Conn.

ESSEX — After a member of the Griswold Inn’s waitstaff tested positive for COVID-19, the restaurant closed on Easter — canceling hundreds of appointments.

Owner Geoff Paul, in a video posted by WTNH, said after he learned of the worker’s positive test result, all other waitstaff were told not to stay home and the establishment was closed on Sunday.

Paul said the Main Street restaurant canceled 350 reservations.

“It’s a very substantial and important day for us,” Paul said in the video. And more importantly to me, it’s a day where families celebrate their time together. ... So we’re very sorry to all those people who come to join us year after year. But we have to be safe, that’s the environment we’re in.”

Paul apologized to those whose reservations were canceled, adding that the decision was made with everyone’s safety in mind.
