GUILFORD — The news that police arrested Ellis Tibere after he allegedly stabbed a woman in Westport came as a shock to the 18-year-old high school student’s hometown of Guilford.
Police say Tibere waited in a parking lot for several hours before he walked up to a woman’s car, opened the door and tried to stab her. She fought back and started kicking at him, police said, and suffered multiple stab wounds to her legs. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault and carrying a dangerous weapon, according to the state’s online court case search.
Tibere was listed on last spring’s Guilford High School lacrosse team roster. He also made the honor roll during the 2018-19 school year, when he was a junior, according to a Zip06 article.
A neighbor, who asked not to be named, expressed confusion in the wake of Tibere’s arrest.
“This kid is a model student. This is a tragedy,” the neighbor said. “... He is a mild-mannered, sweet kid. This makes no sense to me. This is not in any way, shape or form consistent with the family.”
