BRANFORD — One in seven Connecticut households struggles to put food on the table. Nearly one child in five under age 18 is hungry or food insecure.

To do something about that, the Branford Rotary is once again hosting its annual Thanksgiving Day 5K and Fun Run starting at Walsh Intermediate School.

This year, the road race welcomes a new partner, BC2 and the BC2 Sports and Fitness Complex, a proposed 125,000-square-foot facility honoring the memory of local athlete and humanitarian Ben Callahan.

Proceeds benefit the Community Dining Room, Branford Food Pantry, Orchard House, Rotary Veterans Luncheon, and the Branford Senior Holiday Dinner, among others.

The Branford Rotary Club is donating $8,000, from a combination of 30 Rotary partners and smaller sponsors, with Liberty Bank chipping in $.25 for every dollar raised.

“It’s a wonderful program that’s so important to help feed those in need over the holidays,” said Branford Rotarian and race co-chairman James Carpenter.

The road race starts at Walsh Intermediate School, 185 Damascus Rd. Branford. Registration at 7:30 a.m. Kids’ Fun Run begins at 9 am. Race begins at 9:10 a.m. To sign up, visit
