BRANFORD — Aldi, a German-owned cousin of Trader Joe’s known for its low prices, high-quality store brands, no-frills style and growing selection of natural and organic foods, is looking to open its latest area supermarket on Route 1.

The proposed store, directly opposite Interstate 95’s long Exit 53 ramp at 1151 West Main St., would join locations in New Haven, West Haven, Hamden, Milford, Wallingford and Derby, as well as others including Middletown, Torringtown, Danbury and Waterbury.
