BRANFORD — As Branford’s public schools begin what may be their most challenging year ever, they do so without two Board of Education members who abrubtly resigned last week, including Chairwoman Shannen Sharkey.

Sharkey and board member Maria Ehrhardt — both educators — resigned Sept. 2. In their resignation letters, both cited their job responsibilities.

Both also cited politics as a reason why they were leaving.

Both were elected on the Republican slate, though Ehrhardt actually is a registered Democrat, according to both town and GOP officials.
